Citrus Heights HART is in the midst of their second rotating emergency shelter program for Citrus Heights residents by the local faith-based communities during the cold winter months. Dinner and breakfast are served and guests can share a good conversation with the volunteers. Open from January 1, 2018, to February 24, 2018. Citrus Heights Navigator visits once a week to give referrals and resources to those in need. There is also a mobile clinic on site every Tuesday.
Here's what you need to know:
ELIGIBILITY AND THE PROCESS
Intake: Monday through Sunday 5 pm - 6 pm (guests may not arrive prior to 5 pm) Bus leaves at 6 pm for Host Site. Checkout: Clients depart at 6 am to return to the Intake Site.
Eligibility: The winter shelter is open to Citrus Heights residents age 18 and older and guests are asked to follow reasonable rules: no weapons, no drug/alcohol use while in the program. Guests that appear too intoxicated/high, belligerent or generally unable to cope in a closed environment may be turned away and asked to return the following day.
Application Process: The process begins promptly at 5 pm and runs until about 6 pm seven days a week during program dates and guests may not arrive prior to 5 pm. Space is limited, but available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once they are finished with the short intake process, guests get on a Bus and journey's to the Host Site. There, guests are provided a hot dinner, a cot and sleeping bag, and a to-go breakfast in the morning. After a night of good rest and warmth, guests depart the host site at 6 am, return to the Messiah Lutheran and resume their daily activities. The volunteers and intake sites do not allow for loitering at Check-In or after Drop-off.
